Riverside Pulls Away Behind Pullin

Henderson, NV

The Final Quarterfinal of the day saw UC Davis take on UC Riverside in a #6 v #3 matchup. The Aggies wasted no time getting started, scoring the first 6 points of the game. Riverside would rely on their defense to claw back, holding the Aggies scoreless from behind the three point line, eventually taking a 12-8 lead. The Highlanders extended their lead behind the hot shooting of Zyon Pullin who took control of the game midway through the first half. His three-pointer with 5:23 left pushed the lead to 12. The Aggies would catch a break during a six-point possession that saw two fouls and a technical foul called on Riverside. The run would serve as a momentum boost for the Aggies as they would close the gap to four at the half after Ty Johnson’s two free throws. Free Throws would be the story of the first half as Davis went 8-10 while Riverside did not attempt a single one.

The second half started out as the Flynn Cameron show as the, Grad Senior put up a quick nine points for the Highlanders, helping them extend their lead to 7. The lead would balloon to as much as 15 after a Jayhlon Martinez three. The Aggies would make a few runs, behind the play of All Conference guard Elijah Pepper. However, the Aggies could never really close the gap. A Robby Beasley three was the only one the Aggies could put on the board, as they shot 6% from behind the arc for the day, and never really threatend.

The Highlanders were led by Zyon Pullin who finished with a team high 19, while Cameron chipped in with 14. They will now turn their attention to a UC Santa Barbara team that they also swept during the season. “I think the biggest thing is you know you can beat them. If we stick to what we do every single day it will give us a great opportunity” – Zyon Pullin
